Let’s be honest for a second, trying to buy CBD can feel like walking through a maze in the dark. 🌑
One brand says they’re the best, another says they’re the "purest," and then you hear about some "official list" from the government that’s supposed to keep us safe. It’s enough to make anyone want to just stick to herbal tea and call it a day! ☕
But don’t worry, I’ve been doing the legwork (and the scrolling) so you don’t have to. If you’ve ever wondered, "Is this CBD bottle actually safe?" or "Why is the government getting involved in my wellness routine?", you’re in the right place.
Today, we’re breaking down the FSA CBD Public List. It sounds boring, but it’s actually the most important tool you have to make sure you’re getting the good stuff.
Let’s dive in! 🌿
What on Earth is the FSA Public List? 🤔
First things first: What is the FSA? It stands for the Food Standards Agency. They’re the folks in the UK responsible for making sure the food we eat (and the supplements we take) won't hurt us.
A few years ago, the FSA decided that CBD should be classified as a "Novel Food."
Buddy Says: "Novel Food" is just a fancy way of saying a food that doesn't have a long history of people eating it in the UK or EU before May 1997. Since we haven't been munching on CBD gummies for decades, the FSA wants proof that they’re safe for long-term use.
The FSA CBD Public List is a massive database of every CBD product that has submitted a "Novel Food Application."
Here’s the deal:
- If a product is ON the list, the FSA is currently reviewing its safety data. It’s allowed to stay on the shelves for now. ✅
- If a product is NOT on the list (and it was launched after 2020), it shouldn't be on sale. 🛑
Basically, if a brand isn't on that list, they haven't done their homework. And you deserve a brand that does its homework!

The 4-Step Safety Checklist: How to Check Your CBD 🕵️♂️
I get asked all the time: "Buddy, how do I know if my CBD is legit?"
It’s easier than you think! Grab your bottle, open up your laptop, and follow this simple checklist to see if your CBD passes the test.
1. Find the Official List
Don't just trust a random blog (well, except this one 😉). You want to go straight to the source. You can find the live FSA Public List of CBD Products here. It’s updated regularly, so it’s the only place to get the real facts.
2. Search by Brand or Product
Once you're on the site, use the search bar. Type in the brand name (like Nature's No.1) or the specific product name.
3. Check the "Status"
You’ll see different terms like "Validated" or "Awaiting Evidence."
- Validated: This is the gold standard for now. It means the FSA has looked at the application and agreed it has all the right info to move forward.
- Removed: If you see this, run the other way! It means the product failed a safety check and should be taken off the market.
4. Look for the Lab Results
A listing on the FSA site is great, but a truly transparent brand will show you the actual lab results for the batch in your hand. At Nature’s No.1, we make this super easy. You can check our latest Lab Results right here. 🧪
Buddy Tip: If a brand hides their lab reports or makes it "too hard" to find them… that's a red flag! 🚩 Safety should never be a secret.
Why the Rules Changed (And Why 10mg is the New Magic Number) 🔢
You might have noticed some buzz lately about "new limits" for CBD. In late 2023 and moving into 2024/2025, the FSA updated its guidance for daily intake.
For a long time, the advice was "don't exceed 70mg a day." But science evolves! After looking at new safety data, the FSA now recommends that healthy adults limit their CBD intake to 10mg per day.

Why the change?
- Precaution First: The FSA is being extra careful. They want to ensure there's no long-term impact on your liver or other organs.
- Consistency: It helps people understand exactly how much they're taking.
- Vulnerable Groups: The FSA still advises that pregnant or breastfeeding women, and people taking certain medications, should avoid CBD altogether.
Is 10mg enough? For many people, a small, consistent dose is all they need to feel that sense of balance. It’s all about "Low and Slow", start small and see how your body feels!

🚫 What to Avoid: CBD Red Flags
While you're navigating the world of natural health, keep an eye out for these "no-go" signs:
- Medical Claims: If a brand says their CBD "cures" cancer or "stops" diabetes, they are breaking the law. CBD is a supplement, not a miracle drug.
- Missing Labels: No batch number? No expiry date? No "mg" of CBD listed? Put it back on the shelf! 🛒
- Cheap Prices: High-quality CBD extraction and safety testing are expensive. If it’s "too cheap to be true," it’s probably just hemp seed oil with no actual CBD in it.
- Ghost Brands: If there’s no way to contact the company or find out who owns it, who are you going to talk to if something goes wrong?
Final Thoughts from Buddy 💭
Staying safe shouldn't be stressful. That kind of defeats the purpose of wellness, doesn't it? 🧘♂️
By using the FSA Public List and sticking with trusted brands like Nature's No.1, you can stop worrying about the "what-ifs" and start focusing on feeling your best.
Remember: You are in the driver's seat of your own health. Keep asking questions, keep checking the lists, and keep being curious!
